Resolutions, diets and dry January, it’s that time of year!

It’s the beginning of the year, that time when some of us have broken all our new year’s resolutions and wish we could hibernate until spring has sprung whilst others are still full of enthusiasm and aspirations for a new year.

It can be difficult at this time of year when Christmas is over, the weather is cold and miserable and the days still feel short but here at the Exchequer office we’re determined not to succumb to the January blues.

OK so we’ll admit some of us have already broken our resolutions, (I’m not mentioning any names!) and given up the diets but others are showing real determination and doing brilliantly.

Studies actually show that less than 10% of people don’t keep there resolutions. Apparently most of us manage to keep them for the first two weeks of the year and then things start to slide!

According to psychologists there are many reasons why we fail to keep our resolutions including:
• setting unrealistic goals
• not putting the right support in place
• not believing in yourself
• giving up too easily and being too hard on yourself if you slip up

If you are currently battling to keep yours we wish you lots of luck, stick with it, it will be worth it in the long run! For those of you taking part in Dry January don’t give up. It is for a great cause and you are half way through already!
