Name: Emma
Job title: Payroll administrator
Talk me through a typical day in the office/work for you?
At the start of the week it is all P45s and P46s and general processing for the payroll side of things. Then later in the week (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday) I’m really busy making payments for the agencies. I do the payments for some of the big name recruitment agencies so it is very busy.
What is your favourite part of the job?
Mon Tue I’m on the phone a lot, I quite like making the payments. It can be quite repetitive but it is also quite therapeutic at the same time. There is lots of checking involved and it’s satisfying making sure all the payments have gone through. We’ve got some new systems and they are working really well so that makes the job more enjoyable.
If you didn’t work at Exchequer Solutions what would be your dream job?
Well I’m also a sheep farmer so I’d probably just disappear off to Wales and be a sheep farmer.
I’m also doing my AAT accounts qualifications at the moment so this job is really good experience for me. I’ve got lots of experience in retail but this is my first payroll job.
When you aren’t in work where are most likely to be found?
On the farm
Where would your ideal holiday be and why?
Oooh that’s a difficult one, I’ve travelled quite a lot but I’d probably say Namibia. I lived and worked out there for 6 months. I was working on an animal sanctuary and really enjoyed it so I’d love to go back there.
