Video interviews are here to stay

Video interview are increasingly being used by recruiters and employers. Love or hate the idea the chances are they are only going to become more commonplace.

Video conference interviews used to be reserved for senior roles in big organisations. They were usually used when high flying executives were working overseas and simply not available for a face to face interview a. Nowadays the video interview is frequently being used by large employers for a first stage interview with candidates for roles at all levels. There are obvious benefits for businesses, they can save time and money and potentially interview more candidates. It gives them the flexibility to interview candidates in almost any location, dramatically increasing their search area.

Advances in technology and the increase in the use of Skype, Facetime and Google Hangouts have meant people are more comfortable talking with someone on screen. There are benefits too for the candidate. They don’t have to travel to an interview which means taking less time out from their existing job as well as the saving on travel costs.
In practical terms video interviews appear to be a great idea but as with any format it should be remembered that it will suit some candidates more than others. For those who aren’t so comfortable in front of the camera now is the time to think about improving those video interview skills!
