The summer holidays are just around the corner but if you are working in recruitment we know that the hard work doesn’t necessarily stop while you jet off to the sun or enjoy endless picnics and beer gardens.
It can be a notoriously busy and frustrating time of year for recruiters. Factory shutdowns and construction project deadlines can create a high volume of demand for specialist contractors in a short window of time. Combine this with the children being off for six long weeks, creating childcare problems for some candidates while others are flying off for their annual dose of sunshine and it can be a recipe for stress and headaches.
The situation isn’t helped by the fact that while you have your phone permanently attached to your ear and are repeatedly clicking send/receive on your emails desperately trying to make contacts with suitable contractors it feels like your friends and family are all enjoying one long BBQ.
It’s worth remembering that this time of year can be a productive and lucrative one. Being organised and helpful during this period can pay off, now is the time to plan ahead. Get in touch with clients and candidates to touch base and find out what you can about their plans. Demand will always change and that can be infuriating but glean as much information as you can now from clients so you can see where the peaks and troughs are likely to be. It’s also important to communicate effectively with candidates, there will always be one who books a last minute holiday but if you have a clear idea of candidate’s availability it will help save time in the long run. Oh and did I mention trying to manage client’s expectations if they are unrealistic!
