About Mike’s career
Please provide a bit of background of your career pre-Exchequer?
I worked in the recruitment sector from 1995 to 2010 in roles ranging from recruitment consultant, branch manager, area manager, compliance manager and even head of an IT help desk! I worked almost exclusively in the trades and labour sector before making the leap to Umbrella land.
What inspired you to establish Exchequer Solutions?
There were significant changes to the recruitment sector in the late 90’s including an increase in intermediary companies due to legislation changes. The shareholders of ESL saw an opportunity to be a provider in this space and decided to open a commercial contracting company focusing on the construction sector.
What’s the best part of your job?
Working with some brilliant people on a day to day basis. With a very flat management structure, we have the ability to evaluate and implement an idea very quickly. If one of the team has an idea, and it’s compliant, we’ll give it a try – more often than not the ideas are good ones and benefit ESL and it’s customers.
What’s the most important piece of advice you give to clients?
Treat everyone with courtesy and respect at all times. Rudeness gets you nowhere and you never know when you’ll need help from or will work with someone in the future.
