Not content with competing along with other members of his team in the Chester half Marathon Operations Director Mike Lowndes has announced he is running in the London marathon.
It’s not his first marathon and Mike has previously taken part in the Iron Man triathlon, despite his experience he is taking his training very seriously. He is often to be found before work or on his lunch break out running along the canal in Chester.
He has chosen to run for Ethan’s journey and has set himself a target of £500. Ethan was born with a rare condition called Lymphatic Malformation. The condition causes cysts, which in Ethan’s case restricted his airway so he has had a tracheostomy since he was 3 days old. Ethan also has cysts in his cheek and behind his right eye.
Due to the rarity of Ethan’s condition his family were told that nothing could be done and they would look at Ethan again when he was a teenager.
Since then an expert (Dr Waner) based in New York who has had some amazing results has been operating on Ethan to try to correct the facial differences and to clear his airway so the tracheostomy can be removed. Unfortunately the operations are not covered by the NHS so all operations have been paid with fundraising.
