Congratulations Ironman Mike!

Operations Director, Mike Lowndes has successfully completed his first Ironman. On the 20th of July, in Bolton Mike took on the grueling challenge of swimming 2.4 miles, cycling 112 miles and running a marathon. He completed the challenge in an amazing 12 hours and 39 minutes burning an estimated 20,000 calories along the way

The event was the 10th UK Ironman to take place here. It included an open water swim in Pennington Flash, cycling through stunning countryside in Lancashire and culminated with a 26.2 mile run setting off from the Macron Stadium running into Bolton town centre before finishing in Victoria Square in the shadow of the Albert Hall.

There were over 2000 entrants on the day and the weather conditions were unforgiving but that didn’t stop Mike completing the mammoth challenge in a brilliant time and with a smile on his face.

Mike said, “I wanted to raise money for Scope and I set myself a target of £1000. I have gone well above that figure which is brilliant. It’s a great cause and I want to thank everyone who has sponsored me.”

We know he’s been training hard for a long time and thought he be glad to relax now it’s over but no, he’s already thinking about his next challenge! Mike has decide that next year he’ll be giving the London Marathon a go!
