Operations Director, Mike Lowndes is on the final countdown to his first Ironman competition. On the 20th of July Mike will take on the grueling challenge of swimming 2.4 miles, cycling 112 miles and running a marathon.
The event in Bolton is the 10th UK Ironman to take place here. It includes an open water swim in Pennington Flash, cycling through stunning countryside in Lancashire and culminates with a 26.2 mile run setting off from the Macron Stadium running into Bolton town centre before finishing in Victoria Square in the shadow of the Albert Hall.
Competitors and spectators are expected from all over the world with many of them raising money for their chosen charity.
The Triathlon is the final challenge in a series of sporting events which has already seen Mike complete the Pennines Etape and the Manchester Marathon but this will be his biggest challenge yet. He’s been training hard to get ready for the triathlon even keeping up his training schedule while on holiday, eating all the right foods and drinking performance enhancing beetroot juice!
Mike said, “I wanted to raise money for Scope and I set myself a target of £1000 which I’ve already reached so I’m really pleased. It’s a great cause and I want to thank everyone who has sponsored me. I’ve been training hard for a while so I can’t wait to get out there and do it now!”
If you don’t mind an early start the event promises a breathtaking views and a spectator friendly course.
