This year our Operations Director, Mike Lowndes, will be taking part in not one, but two, Ironman challenges. He will be competing in Ironman Lanzarote on the 20th May 2017 and Ironman Lake Placid on the 23rd July 2017 in support of Cancer Research UK.
The Ironman Triathlon has its roots in Hawaii in 1977, and there are now over three dozen races spanning across Europe, North America, South America, Africa, Asia and Oceania.
Considered one of the most difficult one-day sporting events, both Ironman challenges will comprise of a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike leg and a 26.2-mile run to the finish line, in that exact order and without a single break. Participants have a strict time limit of 17 hours to complete the race and anyone that successfully completes the challenge within this time frame can officially be called an ‘Ironman’.
This is not Mike’s first time participating, he has taken on the Ironman Challenge once before back in 2014 in Bolton. He has also an avid marathon runner.
Mike wants to raise as much money as possible, with a target of £2,000 for Cancer Research UK, a charity close to his heart, as sadly most people will know someone close to them that has been or is currently affected by cancer.
Any donations are greatly appreciated and will go towards the fantastic work Cancer Research UK carries out towards research in diagnosing, preventing and treating cancer.

Good luck Mike!
