April is set to be a fantastic month of fundraising for the Exchequer Solutions team, as our Head of Sales, Dale Lewis, runs the Chester Half Marathon, and our Managing Director Mike Lowndes runs the Manchester Marathon, both in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
First up to run is Mike, who will run the Greater Manchester Marathon on the 8th April 2018, alongside 15,000 fellow runners. The Manchester Marathon is one of the most popular in the country, winning the title of Best Marathon at the 2014, 2015 and 2017 running awards. The 26.2 mile event will take racers through the Greater Manchester area, finishing at the iconic Emirates Old Trafford cricket ground.
Mike will be raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support, the UK’s leading cancer support charity that has been improving the care for those with cancer since it was founded in 1911 by Douglas Macmillan. The support they provide to patients and their families is vast, and can range from understanding a diagnosis, to organising your finances so that patients are able to fully focus on their treatment without the added stress of monetary issues.
Speaking of the Marathon and his support of Macmillan, Mike said “Everybody knows someone that has dealt with cancer in their life, be it a family member, a friend or a work colleague, and therefore it is highly likely that these people have also come into contact with the wonderful work that the Macmillan team carry out. For this very reason myself and other members of the Exchequer Solutions team are taking part in events to fundraise for this amazing cause.”
Mike is no stranger to these events, having taken part in a number of events including, the Manchester Marathon in 2013, the Chester Half Marathon in 2015, and an astonishing two Ironman challenges last year in Lanzarote and Lake Placid. Through his JustGiving page alone Mike has raised over £3,500 for some great causes.
