Is the CIS scheme still an option?

Since the changes to SDC were announced last year we’ve seen a rise in enquiries about the CIS scheme. Interest in the scheme has come from recruitment consultants and contractors who work in the construction sector.

CIS was often regarded as the preferred method of pay for construction workers until HMRC made changes back in 2014 and many workers moved to umbrella schemes. This was often because their recruitment agency was concerned about ensuring compliance and in some instances the worker could legitimately have remained on the CIS scheme.

At Exchequer Solutions we’ve always continued to offer CIS to workers who meet the right criteria, we take compliance very seriously and would never recommend this approach to someone who didn’t but for many it was and still is the right scheme for them.

CIS is still a viable option for workers in the construction industry who aren’t subject to SDC. At Exchequer Solutions we can support workers on the CIS scheme with our services.

However if the worker is subject to SDC then the individual should be paid on a PAYE basis. For individuals where this applies we can pay them on our Exchequer PAYE scheme at a discounted margin as we longer process expenses for them.

Where recruiters are concerned about CIS we can offer the reassurance that we will assess each individual to ensure that CIS is right for them and we can also offer a form of CIS insurance to agencies to give peace of mind.

If you are interested in finding out more, have questions or would like to discuss your requirements please give us a call and we’ll be happy to talk about it in more detail.
