What are the rules re the reimbursement of expenses?

The rules on the reimbursement of expenses have changed recently.

HMRC quietly sneaked in legislation that says if your taxable pay goes up and down depending on the expenses incurred then the expenses should be taxed, effectively removing the benefit.

Mileage is however still allowed and can be paid weekly. The change is another blow to contractors and will no doubt be causing frustration for many. Unfortunately it means that all other expenses must now be claimed at the year end in order to benefit from the tax relief.

If you have been affected by these changes and have any questions then please get in touch. We’ll be happy to talk through your specific circumstances and advise.
