Once again the issue of compliance is at the forefront of the Contracting and Recruitment industries. This week HMRC have won a landmark case against an ‘offshore’ provider who were not deducting CIS tax for operatives working in the UK on the basis that the service provider itself was in the Isle of Man. Whilst the decision will no doubt be appealed in the coming days, HMRC are currently seeking to recover £43 million of unpaid tax. Click here for more details.
The crackdown on our non-compliant competitors clearly demonstrates that HMRC is intent on cleaning up the industry and will pursue non-compliant providers and their customers to ensure appropriate levels of tax are always paid.
Exchequer Solutions has always placed compliance at the forefront of business operations. As a mainland based contracting company we of course ensure appropriate level of CIS tax is deducted from all CIS contractors. Adhering precisely to HMRC guidelines, Exchequer ensures all PAYE employees are paid at least national minimum wage and only then are employees paid business expenses when a receipt is supplied and the claim meets HMRC rules.
If you currently have any CIS operatives engaged with an offshore provider and are understandably concerned by HMRC’s win please call Emma, our Customer Service Manager, on 01244 500195 to discuss how we can help.
